From Siem Reap

Important!

It is not possible to get from Siem Reap to Rainbow Lodge without going via Phnom Penh or Thailand. It is easier to go via Phnom Penh. Also, if you are on a single-entry visa and you go via Thailand, you would need to buy a new visa on re-entry to Cambodia.

This page concentrates on options for getting to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap. For details of getting from Phnom Penh to Rainbow Lodge see here.

By bus

It is not possible to get from Siem Reap to Rainbow Lodge by bus in a single day. Instead, there are the following options:

  1. Bus any time from SR to PP, stay the night in PP, bus to Rainbow Lodge
  2. Overnight bus from SR to PP (leaves about midnight), morning bus from PP to Rainbow Lodge
  3. Taxi from SR to PP, afternoon bus from PP to Rainbow Lodge (leaves about midday)
  4. Moring bus from SR to PP, taxi from PP to Rainbow Lodge
Of these, Option 2 seems to be the most popular. You leave Siem Reap at about midnight and arrive at Rainbow Lodge at about 13:30, with no need for a night's accommodation in Phnom Penh. If you prefer to do it all in one day, then a taxi must be used for at least one of the legs. Option 3 is cheaper than Option 4. See below for more details on Taxis.

Taxi

A taxi from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh costs around $55. A taxi from Phnom Penh to Rainbow Lodge costs about $70. You are unlikely to find a taxi that will take you all the way from Siem Reap to Rainbow Lodge but it is worth asking because it can cut up to an hour from the journey time, if the taxi does not go into Phnom Penh on the way.

Rainbow Lodge can arrange a taxi for you for the leg from Phnom Penh. These cost $70 or, if you will be returning to Phnom Penh, $120 for the round trip.
