Boat Trips

Sunset Cruise

We head out towards the sea with cameras and beers onboard. A beautiful trip culminates in floating peacefully on the river at sunset near a palm-fringed island.

Stunning sunsets can be viewed (no guarantees, of course) whilst watching the locals and the wildlife settling in for the night. Head back to Rainbow Lodge after dark for an evening drink and your meal.

The quality of sunsets is variable depending on the season. The best times are between October and December, but it is a nice trip any time of the year.

Up River

In the opposite direction to the sunset cruise, you can take the boat up river.

En route

This gloriously tranquil stretch allows you to experience a "heart of darkness" trip, where the jungle creeps all the way to the water's edge. The boat stops at a small set of rapids where you can swim and relax. This trip is perhaps the best for bird and wildlife observation: oriental pied hornbills, kingfishers, etc. can be seen as well as occasionally the long-tailed macaques. The reflections on the river are also spectacular for photography, especially early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Janet got the boat stuck!

Tatai Waterfall

As an alternative to trekking or kayaking, you can be "chauffuered" to Tatai Waterfall in one of our boats. This is a very scenic trip with a great reward at the end.
