Who's Who

My name is Janet and I run Rainbow Lodge together with my boyfriend, Gee, and my staff, who are Darut and Sopheap, Mom and Bro, Saren, Piarom, Panna and Won, Thierry, and Sro.

Darut and Sopheap met at Rainbow Lodge and got married in March 2010. They are now expecting their first child. Darut joined the team in April 2009. He is a strong and athletic young man with a friendly smile. He does many of our boat trips and helps out in several ways around Rainbow Lodge. Darut loves trekking and catching whatever creatures he can to give customers a closer look. Sopheap also us in January 2010. She was a shy girl with little experience or confidence. Now she is really part of the team. Sopheap does laundry and cleans bungalows, as well as cooking for the staff.

Saren, Sopheap's elder sister, arrived in April 2009. She is one of our cooks. With little formal education and no previous employment, Saren has delighted many with her good humour and giggles, and is learning something new everyday.

Mom and Bro also met and got married since Mom started working here late in 2009. She is one of our cooks and also does much of the shopping in the market. She is very quick, very hard working and great fun to be with. Improving her English all the time and balancing the books, Mom has proved a real asset. Bro is from the local village and joined us just before marrying Mom in April 2011. He has already been a great help, including installing pipes to get water directly from rainy season streams, removing the need to pump water, which used to be a huge drain on the solar system.

Roat (another of Yaa's younger brothers) joined us in January 2010. He has proved to be a huge help. His experience in building has been very useful with our never ending maintenance at Rainbow Lodge. Roat is bright, quick to learn and has an easy smile and way with customers. He is gradually branching out and has been known to don an apron to serve food and the odd gin & tonic.

When time permits all staff attend Rainbow Lodge "sala rien" where we try to help improve their conversational English. Their enthusiasm is thanks enough.

Our Dog

Sunny

Here at Rainbow Lodge we have a beautiful dog called Sunny. She is big but very friendly and love nothing more than to be tickled or to escort you on your jungle trek.

Our Cats

"Brotherly" love

We also have three cats called P'sar Ch'maa, Houdini and K'nyay. All were rescued (separately) as half-starved strays from Koh Kong market (hence P'sar's name, which translates literally to "Market Cat"). They are doing a lot better now, though.

Their antics in the bar can be very entertaining.
