Rainbow Lodge borders the South Cardamom protected reserve. This large area of jungle is said to be the most pristine forest left in South East Asia.

The jungle is bursting with life and even includes, tigers, elephants and crocodiles however you are never likely to see one!

Animals that have been seen, either in grounds of Rainbow Lodge or whilst in the jungle include; porcupines, squirrels, civets, turtles and monitor lizards. Animals that are regularly heard but not seen are gibbons and deer.

There is also an abundance birds, butterflies, lizards and skinks and of course insects.

Much of the forest in this area is bamboo, however there are of course numerous plant and fungi species to observe

NB. Whilst gentle exploration of the jungle around the rapids and waterfall can be undertaken privately it is not permitted to do the trek unguided in the jungle.
